Heads Up – Ten Techniques For Safely Shaving Your Head

By Kathy Hammond Head shaving done by females as well as males is seen and accepted much more these days. But history tells us it’s nothing new. Both ancient male and female Egyptians used to shave their heads bald. Females always wore wigs. The modern female who is shaving her head often has fun doing so as well. Many people find bald heads very sexy. And if you didn’t know – The entire scalp is an erogenous zone after shaving. If you’re certain you’re ready to go bald for the first time, here are techniques to help you: 1) Start by cutting and then trimming your head hair to a short stubble before shaving. 2) Next, take a hot shower. The steam will relax the skin and soften the hairs, which will make head shaving easier. Allow your skin and stubble to be wet for five to ten minutes. 3) Then apply a rich lubricant and allow it to sit for a short while. You might want to use a little Tea Tree or mineral oil. This will help the razor glide more easily while shaving your head, which will help prevent cuts. 4) ALWAYS use a fresh, new blade in your razor. And if it starts to feel like the razor is dragging, put in a new blade. Especially because people will be noticing your bald pate, the last thing you want is scraped, scabby skin. You want smooth and shiny skin after shaving. Obviously, you can’t see the back of your head to shave it, so if you don’t want to end up looking patchy … 5) Use a mirror. Also, regularly use your fingers to feel for areas you’ve missed. Note:The direction of head shaving doesn’t matter because the hair grows in different directions. Whatever feels best to you. 6) Try not to apply too much pressure or repeat strokes in the same area as you’re shaving as both of these actions will certainly irritate the skin. After you’re finished shaving your head – 7) Thoroughly wash off any remaining lubricant with warm water. 8) Then rinse with cold water. If you think you can handle it, rub your head with an ice cube. This will go a long way to close and calm the follicles, (the skin depressions from which hairs emerge), and generally tone your scalp skin. 9) Pat the area dry, making sure not to rub. 10) Many veteran head shavers believe applying witch hazel, after shave or another alcohol based product works well to further close the follicles and also act as an astringent to kill any germs and bacteria. But beware – Alcohol dries out the skin and dry skin is a major culprit in creating skin irritations. Tip:One way to kill bacteria, prevent infection and obtain moisture is to use the popular natural remedy Tea Tree Oil. It will deeply condition your scalp and provide your pate with a healthy sheen. There are many creams, lotions and oils specifically formulated to limit irritations and itching from shaving. Used regularly, these will soften the skin and hair follicles and even reduce the stiffness of the stubble when hairs start growing in between shaves. After you rub a goodly amount into your skin, go ahead and put on some more – Only this time don’t rub it in but allow your skin to absorb it. These guidelines are based upon generations of people’s experiences head shaving with a wet razor, so if you follow them, you should receive the most pleasing results. Depending on how much hair you want showing between shaves, you can shave your head every day, once a week, or only once a month. If you decide you do really enjoy having a bald head, do some research. There is an alternative to shaving your head with a wet razor that will remove your hair closely, cleanly and most importantly, safely. Top Five Common Mistakes Made By Crochet Beginners

By Kelly Parkson For crochet beginners, there are many mistakes they make when they just started out. These are the common mistakes people make when they learn how to crochet. Here are the ways to prevent them. Tension: Of all the mistakes beginners make, I believe that obtaining an even tension on their work is the most common. This stems from the fact that the beginner is doing something new and different. That is stressful! And when we are stressed, what do we do? We tighten our muscles. We tighten the muscles in our shoulders, our neck, ultimately our arms and hands. When our hands become tense and tight we grip the crochet hook and yarn with a death grip and have a hard time loosening up. Not Counting Stitches: Yes. As basic as it sounds, this is a common mistake. You really do have to count stitches as you go until you are sure you know where to place all of your stitches. Being Afraid to Rip Out: This is a big problem with some people. They feel that they have worked so hard on something that they HATE to rip out any work. Uneven Edges: This comes from a combination of errors. Usually not counting and making sure you are completing enough stitches in a row, and secondly from not knowing where to place your last stitch. Being Afraid to Learn a New Stitch: Now this is a little silly, but it happens. Hence, my dishcloth idea. If you are afraid to work a new stitch on a new project, get out that dishcloth yarn! Yes, practice on a dishcloth, something that is disposable or serviceable. Even if you make mistakes at the beginning, the dishcloth will still be useable and you will have been relaxed enough to try a new stitch by working on something as insignificant as a dishcloth. Learning how to crochet is made easy for crochet beginners when they know what mistakes to avoid. Kelly Parkson is the author of “Crochet Mastery: The Real Simple Way To Turn Yourself From A Clueless Beginner to A Crochet Champion.” This program offers information on yarn and hooks, basic and advanced crochet stitches, tips for beginners, how to read a pattern (including left-handed tricks and hints), and more. 17 Ways To Determine If A Beanie Baby Is Counterfeit

By Barry Stein You should always buy Ty Beanie Babies from reputable dealers or from sellers who you know how to contact. These dealers and sellers should also have many references and/or feedback from other people they have done business with. Most counterfeit Beanie Babies are easy to spot if you know what to look for. If you don’t know what to look for then you will probably have a hard time telling most counterfeit Beanie Babies from authentic Ty Beanie Babies. Beanie Baby shows are a good place to check out expensive Beanie Babies. Try to handle them if you can. Get to know the feel of the fabric and their overall appearance. Some counterfeits are excellent reproductions, but regardless of how good the counterfeits look, they usually have many mistakes. It is never just one mistake. If you are buying expensive Beanie Babies, then you should educate yourself on the counterfeits or at least know where to find the information when you need it. Here are two websites that have information on counterfeit Beanie Babies along with photographs of many of them: About Beanies Counterfeit Information http://www.aboutbeanies.com/fakes/index.html Ms. Janie’s Beanies Counterfeit Page http://www.msjanie.com/fakes/fake_page.html Your other option is to have the Beanie Baby authenticated which is inexpensive to do. You can get your Beanie Babies authenticated at these websites: http://www.pbbags.com/ http://www.peggyg.com/ Most of the mistakes on the counterfeits can be found on the tags. Become familiar with the different generation hang tags and tush tags or know where to look to find this information. You can find information and photographs of all the different generation hang tags Ty has produced here: http://www.aboutbeanies.com/tags.html Below are 17 ways to determine if a Beanie Baby is counterfeit: 1. Many of the counterfeits have spelling errors on the tags, but keep in mind that so do some of the authentic Ty Beanie Babies. So you usually have to look for other mistakes beside just this. 2. Check the tag dates and the addresses to make sure they are correct. Many of the counterfeits have the wrong date on the tush tag. 3. Compare the tags of the suspect Beanie Baby with the tags of another Ty Beanie Baby that you know to be authentic. 4. Is the type on the tags too light or too dark? Is it the right typeface? 5. Compare the tags to an authentic Ty Beanie Baby’s tags and determine if the tags are smaller or larger than the authentic tags. 6. Compare the stock color inside the hang tag to another hang tag. Is it too white? Authentic tags have an off-white color. 7. Are the color of the hang tags identical? Or does the red and yellow on the hang tag look muted or too light or too dark? The hang tag should be blue red and not orange red. 8. The yellow star on the hang tag should be a bright sunshine yellow, not a mustard color. 9. Some of the counterfeit Beanie Babies have a yellow star on their hang tag that have points that are too “pointy.” The points of authentic hang tag stars are slightly rounded. 10. Check the gold edge on the hang tag. It should have a nice clean line and be a light bright gold color. It shouldn’t be brassy. 11. Check the overall size and shape of the Beanie. Some of the counterfeit Ty teddy bears have ears that are either too small or too large or perhaps the legs or arms are too short or are shaped strangely. 12. Is the teddy bear’s head too large or overstuffed? 13. Check the eyes to see if they are too close together or too big or too small. 14. Are the eyes a solid color? Some Beanie Baby eyes are a solid color and some are not. Humphrey the camel has solid black eyes but most of the counterfeit Humphrey have eyes that are two-tone. 15. Check the fabric and see if it is rough or if the color is too dark or too light. 16. Does the fabric nap look right? Is the fabric rough, stiff or the wrong color? 17. Most authentic Beanies have nice plush fabric that “flows” in all directions and doesn’t get “wrinkly.” One place you should avoid buying expensive Beanie Babies that are not authenticated is online auctions like eBay. Odds are that if you buy enough of these expensive Beanie Babies that are not authenticated, that you will eventually end up buying some that are counterfeit. DUI and License Restriction

By Eddie Tobey Drivers license restriction is one of the most common punishments for DUI conviction. Statutory chapters that set guidelines for the granting of drivers licenses generally also provide the circumstances under which they can be revoked. With such statutes in place, license revocations have primarily become a simple state administrative agency matter, occurring automatically upon conviction of a DUI offense. If any chemical tests determine your blood alcohol level is .08 percent or more, your driver’s license will immediately be taken by the officer at the time of your arrest. Since the DMV is considered a civil arena, your due process rights have been determined by the courts not to apply. The officer will issue a 30-day temporary license which will allow you to drive while awaiting a hearing date. If the DMV assigns a hearing date after 30 days, which they commonly have to do because they are overbooked, you should receive a written extension so you can continue to drive until the hearing, even after your 30-day temporary license has expired. If you do not request a hearing with the Department of Motor Vehicles within 10 days of your arrest, your license will be automatically suspended. Typically, if you lose the hearing or fail to request a hearing in time, the Department of Motor Vehicles will suspend your privilege to drive for four months (one year if you have a prior conviction). However, you may be eligible for a five-month restricted license after 30 days of your suspension, if you are a first time offender. If you have a prior conviction within 10 years you are not eligible for a restricted work-driving-only license until a one-year suspension is completed (and you must attend the 18-month multiple-offender alcohol program). In addition to mandatory license revocation, state statutes are increasingly giving courts the discretionary power to suspend the DUI offenders vehicle registration, or even, in some circumstances, to impound the convicted DUI offender’s vehicle. Where allowed, actual impoundment rarely occurs and when it does, is of relatively short duration. Drought Tolerant Plants in Full Sun Gardens

By Bill Watson Areas of your garden that face West or South naturally tend to be much hotter and receive much more direct sunlight. Taking a little time to choose the right plants for these demanding growing conditions can help save you time, money, and water, as well as improve your overall results. Most plants will require more water under high heat/sun conditions unless theyre native to one of the desert regions, or when established, tend to be drought tolerant. Tip: Young plants, or fresh plantings, will require time to grow into their drought tolerant status. Root systems need time to expand and become established, and that length of time will depend in general upon plant type, variety, and the watering method you choose to employ. Mulch Adding a thick layer of clean mulch on your garden beds, will help to conserve moisture, and protect a plants roots from temperature extremes. Ground bark, straw, or compost, are some of the organic materials used for mulching. Apply a 1 to 2 inch thick layer of mulch on top of the soil and around plants. A mulch can be applied at any time during the growing season, however, mulching early in the season, just after preparing the soil and planting, will provide the most benefit. South facing walls or fences tend to absorb and reflect intense solar heat, and so will add to theses demanding conditions. One method used to offset this situation, is to train heat-resistant vines to grow and cover, south or west facing walls, and so prevent the suns heat from being absorbed and reflected into the garden. Another option, is to provide small areas of shade throughout the hottest areas of your yard. Planting small garden trees or dwarf varieties suitable to your local region, will tend to moderate temperature extremes within their local areas. Also, A deep watering program in high heat areas can help conserve water, and still promote healthy, vigorous growth. Not all heat-resistant plants are drought-tolerant. Most annuals will require at least 1 inch of water per week. Drought-tolerant plants, in general, will have deeper root systems, and due to their natural environment, have developed the ability to thrive under low moisture conditions. The following, are examples of the most successful and widely available plants that are heat resistant: Annuals: Zinnias, Marigolds, China Asters and Salvias. Vines: Bougainvillea (all), Hibbertia scandens (Guinea Gold Vine), Rosa (climbing), Wisteria. Shrubs: Calliandra, Callistemon (Bottlebrush), Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Lantana, Pyracantha. Trees: Citrus (all), Fig (edible), Magnolia grandiflora, Prunus caroliniana (Carolina laurel Cherry), Pyrus (Ornamental Pear). Also, most herbs tend to thrive under high heat and light conditions. Examples of these would include, Lavender, Rosemary, and Sage to name a few. Drought tolerant plants are excellent choices for areas and regions that receive little rain, and are well-suited for areas with high heat and light conditions. The following, are widely available examples of drought tolerant plants: Annuals & Perennials: Achillea (Yarrow), Aloe, Coreopsis, Gaillardia (all), Portulaca grandiflora (Rose Moss), Salvias, Verbena. Vines: Bougainvillea, Wisteria. Shrubs: Acacia (many), Callistemon citrinus (Lemon Bottlebrush), Crassula argentea (Jade Plant), Lagerstroemia indica (Crape Myrtle), Lantana. Trees: Acacia (many), Eucalyptus (most), Fig (edible), Walnut. Taking time to choose plants that suit your local environment or growing conditions, will help to ensure positive results and provide a healthy landscape that will thrive for many years to come. The Perfect Exercise For Weight Loss

By Kelvin Ho Wee Min Of all the exercise programs that you can take up in order to lose weight, nothing comes close to walking, in term of its simplicity and effectiveness. Of course, there are some other exercises that can burn calories in a shorter period of time but most of these exercises involve high impact activities and they usually resulted in higher rates of injury. Walking wins out as the only exercise that will allow you to consistently burns calories over the long term. In fact, you can consider walking as the world’s most perfect exercise. Here are the reasons: Convenient and Requires Minimal ExpenseWalking is a work out that you can do whenever and wherever it is convenient for you to do so- in the early morning or late in the evening; around your home or in a new city. All you need is a good pair of walking or running shoes and you are off. There is no need to depend on the gym’s schedule or pay for the gym subscriptions. Efficient Calorie BurnDo you know that you burn the same amount of calories for every mile that you walk or run. Given a choice, I am sure many would prefer walking to running. Less InjuryAlso, walking has a lower risk of injury compared to running. Every step you take, running places forces of 6 to 12 times your weight on your body while walking places only your body weight on your body. Which exercise then do you think will take you for the long haul? Obviously, it is walking. With less chances of getting injured, you will be more likely to maintain your exercise program for the long term. Cut Down Risks of DiseasesWalking for 30-60 minutes, even at a moderate pace, burns stored fat and can build muscle to speed up your metabolism. Walking an hour a day is also found to be able to cut your risk of heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, diabetes and stroke by 30%-40%. Final Notes About Walking Multiplying your weight by the distance traveled gives you the amount of energy used for walking. Do realize that in walking, time and speed does not matter. What matters is the distance covered. To lose weight, you need to consistently burn more calories than you take in and be able to keep at it. That is why I am convinced that walking is the easiest weight loss strategy that really works. Want More Fat Loss Tips? Stoke Your Body’s Furnace With Low Carbohydrate Food

By Nathan T. Lynch Though there are many different low carbohydrate diet plans, they are based on the same principles. When carbohydrates (such as starches and sugars) are consumed, the body’s blood sugar level rises. To counteract high blood sugar levels, the body releases insulin, which in turn increases fat storage and decreases the body’s ability to burn fat. When a low carb dieter restricts carbohydrates, his or her blood sugar is only slightly raised, thus preventing excess insulin production. But many low carbohydrate dieters hopes are ruined by uncontrollable sweet cravings, hypoglycaemic mood swings, hunger urges and lethargy. The truth about carbohydrate is that too much carbohydrate provides too many Calories and probably also has certain negative effects on blood glucose and insulin levels. Despite this however, the body must still have a minimum amount of carbohydrate (as glucose) to stay alive. Although the brain and nervous system normally want the most glucose, these organs can get along without it in a pinch. But that’s not true for certain blood cells and other types of cells. They must have a steady supply of glucose, because without it they’ll quickly die. For this reason, glucose is so important that your body will begin to make the glucose it needs for these cells out of muscle protein if it doesn’t get enough carbohydrate from food. But, although possible, this is a stressful emergency reaction (called ketosis), which also makes you miserable with hunger, cravings, and many other unpleasant sensations. Obviously, dieting would be much more successful if we could avoid all that. When your body runs low on any nutrient it needs to stay healthy, it naturally triggers hunger to make you go get it some more of that thing. But if you habitually eat foods that have too little of whatever it’s running low on and too many Calories, you’re going to get fat from this reaction. Fortunately you can lose the weight again by simply reversing the process. To do so, you learn to eat things that have lots of what your body needs but not many Calories. When you succeed at this your body has no reason to trigger hunger and food cravings even when you’re eating very few Calories and it’s burning excess fat (stored Calories) to make up for this. This reaction is as true for carbohydrate as it is for each of the other nutrients. If you eat too little carbohydrate, your body will trigger hunger because it needs a minimum amount of glucose every day to supply the cells that can’t use anything else. If you eat too much carbohydrate, you’ll get fat because too much carbohydrate has both too many Calories and the aforementioned negative effects on blood glucose and insulin levels. So how much is “enough but not too much”? That amount is probably highly variable depending on your lifestyle. A stressful “go-go” day can require a lot of carbohydrate while a relaxed day probably won’t. However, most scientists put the minimum amount of carbohydrate that most people will need in the range of 50-100 grams per day (which is 200-400 Calories from carbohydrate). This is the amount that prevents your body from starting to make glucose out of muscle protein. Since most food labels list the amount of carbohydrate in the food you eat, tracking and controlling amounts is not difficult. Try to eat in the range of 400 Calories from carbohydrate per day. This will usually prevent the hunger and cravings that are triggered by too little glucose. There are several other nutrients that also trigger hunger and cravings when you get too little of them – and which must therefore also be managed similarly. Lo carb diets are all the rage and you can easily see why. While lowering your carbohydrate intake you thusly have to burn less calories, which means less exercise. Florida DUI Convictions

By Max Bellamy Punishment and convictions for a Florida Driving Under Influence of alcohol (DUI) arrest are serious and far-reaching. They include fines, jail, and administrative license suspension sentence from court. Florida department of highway safety and motor vehicles (FDHSMV) may impose restrictions that may include license suspensions separately, and other than those imposed by court. Person charged with DUI in Florida may hire the services of an efficient attorney to minimize punishments and convictions. Penalties for a first DUI offence may include probation ranging from 3 to 5 years, a fine that may go up to $1000, or a 6 month loss of Florida driver license. A court may also ask an offender to attend DUI schooling for a period ranging from 12 hours to 45 days. Apart from this, a mandatory jail sentence may be imposed, which may vary from a couple of days to a period of 9 months. In some instances, it is possible to have this sentence converted to work service. Penalties for a second DUI offense may include a probation period ranging from 3 to 5 years, a fine that may go up to $2000, or a 5 year revocation of a person’s driving license. An 18-month compulsory DUI program may also be imposed. On the occurrence of a second offence a mandatory 96-hour jail term is sentenced which may extend to 12 months. On being charged for a third time with a DUI offense a 3 to 5 years of court or formal probation may be awarded. The amount of fine charged may range from $1000 to $2500. Being charged a third time might also lead to a loss of license for a minimum period of 10 years. Compulsory attendance to a DUI school 18 months may also be imposed. The above-mentioned penalties may be combined with a jail term of not more than 12 months. A fourth offense is generally considered a felony DUI. Punishment for the same includes a jail term for not more than five years, permanent termination of license and more. On being charged with DUI it is advisable that a person seeks assistance of a professional attorney having adequate amount of defense expertise to deal with the case. Skin Care: Caring for your Skin in Cold Weather

By Sheila Dicks When temperatures drop it is time to think of how cold weather, chilling winds and dry air will affect your skin. We naturally think of bundling up during those frosty months but there are a few other considerations. 1. Keep your face protected by using heavier moisturizers, especially if you have dry skin. Always wear foundation when weathering the cold – give your face that extra protection. Don’t forget the rest of your skin and use body washes instead of harsh soaps. Use lukewarm water and keep hot water off your face and body – it’s drying in the best of times. Apply moisturizer after showering, while you skin is still damp. 2. During the winter the UV rays reflecting off the snow have an added ability to damage your skin. While skiing, snowboarding or enjoying any outdoor sports remember to wear a SPF of 15 or more. Don’t forget that UV rays can harm your eyes as well, so keep them protected with sunglasses. 3. Keep your hands dry and warm during the winter months by always wearing gloves and keep moisturizer close at all times and reapply often. 4. Winter is the worst time of the year to keep nails in good shape. To avoid brittle nails moisturize your cuticles before going to bed (I use olive oil). Always protect your hands with rubber gloves when you use cleaning products. Some are harsh and will seep into your nails and make them brittle. 5. Keep your lips protected from dry, cold air by wearing lipstick regularly. Make a habit of reapplying lipstick so your lips area always covered (except when you sleep) and you will never have chapped lips. 6. Exfoliate your face and body regularly to smooth away dry patches or prevent them. 7. Visit a spa and get pampered.
